OSN Power Rankings
Josh Callaway. January 28th, 2021
We are getting down to the nitty gritty of the high school basketball season with time running out
for teams to make their final statements before postseason play begins in mid-February.
Most, if not all, tournaments are now in the rear-view mirror as teams are getting their final
regular season games in over the next few weeks.
These are the final rankings of January, here we go:
LARGE SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Edmond Memorial – Last Week: #1
Edmond Memorial remains at the top after getting a huge win over Edmond North on Tuesday night 65-54. They’ve been the No. 1 team for a while now and have done nothing to lose that spot. They are very, very good team and certainly a heavy contender, if not the favorites, to win a state title at this point in 6A.
#2 Kingfisher – Last Week: #2
I love this Kingfisher team. They have arguably the best duo in the entire state leading their team and are simply a loaded squad. They have been decimating good teams lately, playing some really high-level basketball. The December loss to Edmond Memorial is the only thing that keeps them out of the top spot.
#3 Del City – Last Week: NR
Del City is a rocketship right now. They go from unranked all the way into the top-3 after an
absolutely unreal week of games since our last rankings. A blowout win over Edmond North and then an overtime win over Carl Albert was eye-opening, and they have earned more respect and are now suddenly in the major conversation here.
#4 Lawton MacArthur – Last Week: #6
#5 Carl Albert – Last Week: #3
#6 Edmond North – Last Week: #4
#7 Heritage Hall – Last Week: #5
#8 Memorial – Last Week: #7
#9 Crossings Christian – Last Week: #8
#10 Hugo – Last Week: #9
LARGE SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Norman – Last Week: #1
Norman belongs at the top as they’ve done nothing but continue to win. They remained
undefeated on the season after a 81-33 demolition of Stillwater on Tuesday. There has been
carnage behind them as well, which has only tightened their grip on the No. 1 spot.
#2 Edmond North – Last Week: #3
Climbing back up to No. 2 is Edmond North after they picked up a massive win over Union
51-43 to hand them their first loss of the season. This team has only lost twice and one of those losses was a close one to Norman. They are a very strong team and I’d love to see them get to play Norman again.
#3 Union – Last Week: #2
Union drops down one spot after taking their first loss of the year to Edmond North, but there is no way you can justify pushing them more down than that. They are still 14-1 on the season and whipped up on a Mustang team that did in fact beat Edmond North. They are very good capable of beating anybody.
#4 Tuttle – Last Week: #4
#5 Sapulpa – Last Week: #5
#6 Roland – Last Week: #8
#7 Weatherford – Last Week: #6
#8 Anadarko – Last Week: #9
#9 Classen SAS – Last Week: #10
#10 Ft. Gibson – Last Week: #7
SMALL SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Hydro-Eakly – Last Week: #1
Hydro-Eakly stays at No. 1 because they have decided not to lose basketball games. They are
16-0 and beat a good Canute team twice since the last rankings. Nobody has a resume like they do at this point, and that’s why they remain at the top.
#2 Hooker – Last Week: #3
Hooker keeps on climbing. Only with one loss, they have multiple really strong wins under their belt and have remained steady while some teams around them have dropped games. They are playing very good basketball and certainly belong in the conversation among the elite small school teams in the state.
#3 Roff – Last Week: #6
Since taking their first loss of the season, our previous No. 1 team has settled back in and started to rattle off wins again at a high clip. They sit at a gaudy 17-1 mark at this point and have some big games coming up. It will be very interesting to keep an eye on them going forward.
#4 Cashion – Last Week: #7
#5 Dale – Last Week: #8
#6 Varnum – Last Week: #2
#7 Calumet – Last Week: #9
#8 Pawnee – Last Week: #10
#9 Oklahoma Union – Last Week: #4
#10 Ft. Cobb-Broxton – Last Week: #5
SMALL SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Vanoss – Last Week: #1
One of the very best, if not THE best, basketball games in the entire state this season was played since our last rankings in Vanoss’ 49-48 win over Dale in the Cashion County Line Tournament. They are a ridiculous 19-0 now and have met every single test. A very obvious No. 1 team right now.
#2 Lomega – Last Week: #2
Vanoss takes the headlines at 19-0 but Lomega’s 16-0 mark is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
They added to an already impressive resume with a nice win over Cyril since our last rankings. They are primed to take over the top spot if Vanoss ever slips up.
#3 Latta – Last Week: NR
Here comes Latta. Just as Del City did in our Large Schools Boys rankings, Latta has shot up the rankings from unranked to No. 3. They haven’t gotten their due respect in our rankings just yet and now they have busted themselves toward the top. They lost to Vanoss by one point in overtime early in the season and lost to Dale to kind of fall off of our radar. But, since then they have knocked off Silo and now avenged that Dale loss since our last rankings. They are the real deal.
