OSN Power Rankings
Josh Callaway February 4th, 2021
The calendar has shifted to February.
That means the high school basketball season is in its final couple of weeks before the playoffs begin, and teams are playing in their final opportunities to adjust their ranking and their spot for a hopeful postseason run.
The games have an extra meaning at this point with the playoffs so close, teams have to be playing their best NOW if they want to go for a championship. Admittedly, there aren’t too many shakeups with this week’s rankings with most of the top teams picking up wins since last week. There are a couple of changes though to look out for.
Buckle up, here are the first OSN Power Rankings of February.
LARGE SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Edmond Memorial – Last Week: #1
Edmond Memorial has put their stamp on our top spot for a while now as they continue to pile up wins and, most importantly, have that wildly impressive Kingfisher win under their belt back in December. They added two more wins over Stillwater and Deer Creek since our last rankings and have given no reason to be moved down.
#2 Kingfisher – Last Week: #2
As I have said many times, I think this Kingfisher team is absolutely incredible. They are 17-1 and are a simply loaded group who is so difficult to beat. They picked up another big time win defeating Carl Albert last week continuing to showcase the team that they are. The early loss to
Edmond Memorial makes it hard to justify putting them up at No. 1, but boy they are far and away deserving of the next spot.
#3 Del City – Last Week: #3
Del City came flying up our rankings last week to No. 3 and they remain there this week after another very nice win over a good Shawnee team last week. After some earlier losses, they are piping hot at the right time. They have more opportunities for big wins coming up before the playoffs, too.
#4 Lawton MacArthur – Last Week: #4
#5 Heritage Hall – Last Week: #7
#6 Memorial – Last Week: #8
#7 Carl Albert – Last Week: #5
#8 Crossings Christian – Last Week: #9
#9 Edmond North – Last Week: #6
#10 Hugo – Last Week: #10
LARGE SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Norman – Last Week: #1
Norman has been our No. 1 team for some time now and they have tightened that vice grip now more than ever after last week. They picked up wins over Edmond Santa Fe, Norman North and Southmoore since last week’s rankings and continue to look like a force in 6A. The top spot remains theirs.
#2 Edmond North – Last Week: #2
Edmond North remains at No. 2 and with their loss to Norman back on Jan. 19 it is going to remain that way barring some big changes soon. They are very good, and have created separation from themselves and the rest of the field, but it is hard to push them above this spot for now.
#3 Union – Last Week: #3
Union has unfortunately had some COVID cancellations that have kept them from playing since our last rankings, but I elected to keep them at this spot. They are still very good with only one
loss on the season, but with it being to Edmond North it makes sense to keep them behind the top-2 teams for now.
#4 Weatherford – Last Week: #7
#5 Sapulpa – Last Week: #5
#6 Roland – Last Week: #6
#7 Anadarko – Last Week: #8
#8 Tuttle – Last Week: #4
#9 Classen SAS – Last Week: #9
#10 Ft. Gibson – Last Week: #10
SMALL SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Hydro-Eakly – Last Week: #1
I am not going to move Hydro-Eakly down until they lose a game. At 18-0, I think they’ve earned that at this point. It is a no-brainer as they near a perfect regular season.
#2 Hooker – Last Week: #2
Hooker has done a whole lot of winning themselves this season to the tune of a 15-1 record on the year. With a couple of blowout wins since our last rankings, they stay put at No. 2. But. the team in the third spot is nipping at their heels….
#3 Roff – Last Week: #3
Roff was our No. 1 team for a long time before a loss to Vanoss dropped them down. But, now, here they come again. At 20-1, they have an insane amount of wins under their belt with gobs of good wins. They are really close to leaping back into the top-2, and a win over Kingston on Saturday may just get them there.
#4 Cashion – Last Week: #4
#5 Dale – Last Week: #5
#6 Varnum – Last Week: #6
#7 Calumet – Last Week: #7
#8 Oklahoma Union – Last Week: #9
#9 Ft. Cobb-Broxton – Last Week: #10
#10 Pawnee – Last Week: #8
SMALL SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Vanoss – Last Week: #1
Just like Norman in the Large Schools Girls rankings, Vanoss has a stranglehold on the No. 1 spot. They are 20-0 (!) on the season and just picked up a blowout win over a good Kiowa team. They are absolutely rocking and rolling right now and look they won’t be stopped any time soon.
#2 Lomega – Last Week: #2
Lomega is getting a lot of wins themselves and they have narrowed the gap with Vanoss as they are now 19-0 themselves. They just keep on winning and it makes me a little depressed knowing we won’t get a matchup between them and Vanoss this season. Because that would be fantastic.
#3 Latta – Last Week: #3
Latta came soaring up the board last week and they remain in the top-3 after getting two more wins since the last rankings. They have some more big games coming up to try and prove themselves further, including a rematch with Dale who they already defeated once coming up on Feb. 12 in a very interesting matchup to keep an eye on.
#4 Dale – Last Week: #4
#5 Hydro-Eakly – Last Week: #5
#6 Howe – Last Week: #6
#7 Crowder – Last Week: #7 #8 Amber-Pocasset – Last Week: #8 #9 Seiling – Last Week: #10 #10 Caddo – Last Week: NR
